Shab-e-Barat – the night of emancipation
Shab-e-Barat
– Muslim religious rite is celebrated either on the fourteenth or fifteenth
night of Shaban, the eighth month of the Muslim calendar year. Shab-e-Barat
is a note to Muslim for preparation of Holy Ramadan which usually starts
after the fifteenth days of Shab-e-Barat. In the sub-continent, Shab-e-Barat
is observed as the night of good fortune.
In Arabic language, Shab-e-Barat is known as ‘Lialatul Barat’ that
means ‘the night of emancipation’ and in Persian language Shab-e-Barat
means ‘the night of destiny’.

the destinies of all for the coming year by taking into account the
deeds committed by them in the past. Devotee prays to Almighty Allah
for the forgiveness of the misdeed committed and in preparation for
Holy Ramadan as well. The night of Shab-e-Barat also commemorates the
entry of Prophet Muhammad [sws] into the holy city of Mecca.
Muslim celebrates the night with due solemnly offer prayers whole night
at home or at mosque and seeks forgiveness for the misdeed and emancipation.
Devotees visit graveyards to pray for the eternal peace to the souls
of the deceased.
Skies light up on the night with colorful fire works. Houses, streets,
Mosques are also illuminated with lamps and candles. Especial sweets
are prepared known as Halwa and distributed amongst relatives, friends
and poor people. Shab-e-Barat is in general observed in Bangladesh,
