| Dhu-al-Hijjah
is the twelfth and final month in the Islamic Calendar. Eid-ul-Adha
occurs on the tenth day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijja. It is one of
two Eid festivals that Muslims all over the world celebrate.
Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a
commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice
his son (Ishmael) for Allah. This festival
is incorporated in the great pilgrimage to Holy City Mecca.
During this month that pilgrims from all around the world congregate at
Mecca to visit the Holy Kaaba Sharif
and perform Hajj. The Hajj is performed on the eighth,
ninth and the tenth of this month. Eid-ul-Adha the ‘Festival of the Sacrifice’
[Qurbani] is held on the tenth day. Like Eid-ul-Fiter, Eid-ul-Adha also
begins with a short prayer followed by a Khutba [Islamic
sermon]. In Holy City Mecca, the Khutba is delivered from Mount
Arafat. |
